About Sustainable San Rafael

Welcome! Sustainable San Rafael is an all-volunteer group of folks dedicated to advocacy and education to help bring about a healthy and aware society.  We are organized around the idea that we can-and must-do more to fight climate change and encourage sustainable living. Click the pictures above for a closer look at SSR in action and read on.

You can learn about some of the educational events we’ve sponsored here.  These include a candidates’ debate specifically about sustainability issues, a public forum on the future and value of county-wide planning and an evening with author Mark Hurtzgaard on how to manage the unavoidable climate change that is already occurring while working to avoid the unmanageable impacts we’re heading toward.

Our advocacy successes include working with the City of San Rafael to adopt both a Green Building ordinance and a Climate Change Action plan that have become models for many other jurisdictions.  You can get an idea of the policy directions we are pursuing today on this page and  by browsing the “Sustainability Topics” menu above.
