Update: On December 17, the City Council voted 3 – 1 to certify the Environmental Impact Report on the airport soccer complex and to approve construction. The one dissenting vote was Councilmember Damon Connolly, who cited the points made by SSR and many other members of the public as to why this project is a bad idea.
On December 3, 2012 the San Rafael City Council heard over six hours of public testimony on the pros and cons of the proposed indoor/outdoor soccer complex at the San Rafael Airport. SSR President Bill Carney presented our concern that this project certainly will require additional flood protection as the sea level rises in years ahead, together with our recommendation that the city get explicit written agreement that the owner, not the taxpayers, will be responsible for the cost of this protection.
